Abstract

My Need Problem or Opportunity (NPO) is that Christian men who commit adultery or engage in pornography are in desperate need of help to heal and be restored by the churches in Parkesburg and Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

One key insight from my research is that churches have continuously struggled to support the men in their congregations as they navigate the challenging journey of healing from issues like pornography and adultery. Through the perspectives of my stakeholders, it became evident that many men often remain unaware of how their past experiences impact their current struggles. Additionally, many carry a deep sense of shame due to their perceived failures in this area. Understanding men's intricate challenges and the importance of compassionate support motivated me to create the Restore Counseling Center. I have dedicated myself to this work, earning my certification in sex addiction therapy and completing courses on generational trauma and global trauma healing. I am organizing a weekend workshop for each individual church in our community, aimed at fostering healing and recovery among men. There will be twelve to fourteen men to join me for a series of eight enriching sessions.

Each session will be a safe space for learning about important topics related to healing, where participants can reflect on their experiences and grow together. I believe our time together can become more meaningful if we focus on having just one church in attendance at a time. It will allow for a more intimate and connected experience for everyone involved. After each session, the men will form two reflection groups to discuss what they've learned and how they can apply these insights to their lives. The final session will focus on creating a personalized twelve-month plan to support their ongoing journey of healing within their church community.
