Abstract
Ember Discipleship College (EDC) reimagines church internships for young adult Christians in the Northwest U.S., revitalizing spiritual formation and equipping them with practical ministry experience. This opportunity helps deepen their faith and engage in ministry within a rapidly changing culture. Unlike traditional programs that focus on students serving the church, EDC combines theological education, hands-on ministry, and immersive experiences to cultivate well-rounded disciples of Jesus. Research indicates that immersive learning, referred to as “experiential learning,” “action learning,” or “orchestrated immersion,” is among the most effective learning methods. This approach emphasizes formation over mere information, creating environments where context serves as the classroom, allowing students to apply their educational learning in practices that shape them spiritually, intellectually, and practically for ministry. Drawing from my ministry context rooted in the discipleship culture of Ember Church, EDC fosters an interactive learning environment where students immerse themselves in real ministry rhythms, engage in mentorship, and uncover their calling through active participation. Throughout the program, students embark on a journey through three core pillars—education, ministry, and formation—while participating in learning weekends, leadership cohorts, and immersive experiences such as a monastery retreat and a cultural exegesis trip to New York. More than just another internship or Bible college, EDC is designed for those who wish to live, learn, and lead in unique ways during these times. Whether preparing for full-time ministry, missions, or a deeper relationship with Christ, students will graduate from EDC formed, equipped, and ready to take their faith beyond the classroom.
