Too-Sah-You-Aht

This newspaper represents the community of Noorvik from 1966-1967. It was started by Peace Core worker Tim Kennedy and Willard Outwater, a recent graduate of the local Friends high school. The paper was supported by the local city council, which put up a $5 prize for a "name the paper" contest. The title of the paper was never spelled properly in Inupiaq, as there was no formalized written expression of the language at that time. The title varied including: 1st issue: NOORVIK TOO-SAH-YOU-AHK 2nd issue: NOORVIK TOO-SAH-YOU-AHT 3rd-16th issues: TOO-SAH-YOU-AHT NOORVIK-MIN The paper includes news and community events, reports from various organizations, poetry and writing from school children, and classified adds. It was used to promote political involvement in the community and inform community members of their rights as citizens.
