Stevens was the tenth president of George Fox University. His educational background was extensive with a Doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Minnesota and a Master's in Educational Psychology from the University of Nebraska. As president and Newberg community member, Stevens was the director of the Newberg Rotary Club, campaign chairman of Yamhill County United Way, board member of Newberg Community Hospital, and consultant for the Chehalem Youth and Family Services. As President of the university from 1983-1998, Stevens saw enrollment more than triple. He also used his leadership skills as part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, where he served in multiple capacities. Cancer claimed Stevens’ life in 1998 at age 57.
