Description
Hester gymnasium exterior.
"The new Thomas W. Hester gymnasium is rising fast. Prof. Roy "Pop" Knight says he hopes to have it completed and ready for use in two or three months. A professional bricklayer has been secured for the completion of the work and is able to lay from 800 to 1,000 bricks per day. Students of the college are helping out by doing what work they* can under the direction of "Pop" Knight. The floor plans call for a regulation size floor, ample play rooms, spacious dressing rooms, and a seating capacity for a thousand people. Details for the trusses have been worked out and were sent by the architect to the college last week. President Gulley says that with a little more work on the south and west walls the building of the trusses can be begun providing lumber is available. It is hoped that the gymnasium will be completed by at least the latter half of the basketball season. Work during the summer was carried on by the boys enrolled in summer school. The foundation was laid and a good start made on the walls by the opening of the fall term."
