Abstract

NPO statement: Christian parents in France need spiritual and practical support in an atmosphere of grace and vulnerability, which should be lived out and encouraged by church leaders.

Addressing this need will increase parental well-being. As parents feel better equipped to reach the goals they have set for their families, they will feel increasingly effective and satisfied in their role as parents. Healthier, thriving families has the potential to lead to healthier churches, organizations and communities.

This project will be deployed in the context of my ministry as a church planter in Northern France where I have worked since 2011. The church I am currenting co-leading meets in the homes of its members and is part of a church planting network, Les Ch’tites Eglises en réseau. The church is affiliated with the Alliance Pour Christ denomination which itself is a member of the National Counsel of French Evangelicals.

This project seeks to address the NPO by taking parents on a learning experience. Each stage of the journey has been carefully crafted, from the invitation to the initial self-assessment. These are followed by a series of workshops leading parents to articulate their individualized goals for their families and identify the necessary steps to achieve them. These goals are then examined through a theological lens. Finally, the workshops teach parents practical skills based on current neurobiological findings and research-based parenting best-practices. Because effecting lasting change takes time, parents will have the option of continuing to meet with a mentor-coach after the workshop experience has concluded.
