Abstract
In the process of writing this book, I would sometimes reach out to current and former students and pose questions to dig into their experiences as new counselors. As a professor and a licensed counselor for over 20 years, sometimes it's hard to be in the mindset and mental space of what it feels like to be a beginner. One day in particular, I reached out to about 20 current and former students and asked them about the specific statements that go through their heads when they feel worthless as a counselor. Usually, when l ask them these "book questions," I get responses over the next week as they ponder and then respond or forget to respond. However, this question, "What do you say to yourself when you feel worthless as a counselor," brought an instant flurry of responses.
