Abstract

Nursing educators are charged to foster a safe and engaging learning environment and one that will facilitate graduate’s success in nursing school and ultimately on the National Council Licensure Exam (NCLEX). Passing the NCLEX is required of all graduates from accredited baccalaureate or associate degree nursing program to become registered nurses prior to practice. While nurse educators desire to teach, and assist nursing students, they often feel very overwhelmed with increasing faculty shortage, class sizes, and escalating change in healthcare. The question arises, “how can nurse educators best address the needs of the learner”? This chapter will explore a variety of “best practices” focused on holistic reflective teaching approaches to ensure that nurse educators specifically have needed skills to meet diverse and vulnerable student populations.
