Abstract

Excerpt: "In the eighteenth century, when the unity of the prophecy of Isaiah began to be questioned, a new wave of critical studies ensued. Among these were many views expressed concerning what was called Deutero-Isaiah (chapters 40-66). The dating of this section of Isaiah greatly affected the interpretation of the prophecies, especially those connected with the exile and all future events. As the early fervor to prevent workable theories of interpretation for those prophesies developed, it was evident that there was more unity to the writings of this section than had previously been held."
