Abstract

A synopsis of the Project Portfolio begins with the NPO statement: This Doctoral Project includes a discipleship model to help the Gathering Kingdom Community be spiritually formed through Pentecostal and Orthodox traditions and shows the relationship between prophetic function and discipleship for members to flourish personally and function as witnesses of the Crucified Christ in a post-Christian culture. Key insights that emerged from the research are that the current discipleship models in many Pentecostal and Charismatic churches are disconnected from how the Early Church viewed discipleship and what it means to be a witness to the culture. My ministry context is I am a pastor, a professor, and a business consultant/career coach. The Project is a book focused on a discipleship model to help the Gathering Kingdom Community to be spiritually formed through Pentecostal and Orthodox traditions and show the relationship between prophetic function and discipleship for members to flourish personally and function as witnesses of the Crucified Christ in a post-Christian culture. I will argue that a cross-shaped ecumenicism is a necessary and hopeful response to the signs of our times. In a time when much of the culture is post-Christian, the world requires the witness of the self-emptying and self-giving nature of Jesus to be seen through His Church that bears His Spirit. The sign of the Cross seen through an ecumenical Church that bears the image of the Lamb-King can draw men and women to Jesus and out of the darkness that keeps them blind to Him. If the Church could bear the image of unity that comes through the union of the Cross while demonstrating unity with diversity, agreement while not agreeing on all things, and honor amid disagreement, that light can shine amid a culture full of darkness.
