Abstract

This project is an on-ramp to a spiritual formation pipeline to address the unique formational needs of men and women for effective, cross-gender mutuality in church leadership. The most critical need which female stakeholders identified for leadership in these church spaces is male allies. Therefore, this project provides a practical and concrete formational on-ramp for male leaders to develop as allies for cross-gender mutuality in ministry leadership. This workshop—Forming the Blessed Alliance—will use evangelical language to frame allyship. The workshop launches by laying the biblical groundwork and by teaching 3-Way Listening with a focus on self and spiritual reflection. The key components of the workshop are PowerPoint presentations and video interviews, which are hosted on a branded website: www.formingtheblessedalliance.org. The first presentation is a PowerPoint laying out a biblical foundation for the work of mutuality focused on Gensis 1 and 2. Two video interviews will follow with reflection time in between. The first video focuses on an unmarried cross-gender leadership team discovering the obstacles to and necessary changes for full mutual ministry partnership. The second video, featuring a male/female copastor team, emphasizes the Hebrew word ezer as having vocational implications in addition to the traditionally taught marital applications. The second PowerPoint presentation defines allyship as stewarding influence and authority as Christ did to elevate those on the margins. Video three emphasizes the formational stages of male allyship. Finally, Participants will be introduced to allyship as Anchored Leadership, which Christ modeled through being anchored in His belovedness. This final presentation will frame Anchored Leadership as a goal of lifelong spiritual formation and will include an invitation to join a cohort for this transformational journey toward mutual leadership.
