Abstract
Few resources cater to the unique needs of seasoned global ministry leaders, fostering the holistic spiritual and personal growth essential for ongoing Kingdom impact. Through research and practice, this project identified a significant gap in addressing the whole person— spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically—during the later stages of ministry and leadership. Insights from stakeholders and participants revealed the importance of integrating spiritual formation, adult psychological truths, and leadership development within a contextual and supportive environment. These elements provide the transformative opportunities later midlife leaders need to sustain growth and deepen their Kingdom contribution.
The ministry context focuses on global workers serving worldwide, leaders who often encounter isolation, fatigue, and a sense of plateau in their spiritual journeys despite years of faithful service. These challenges, compounded by high expectations and complex responsibilities, underscore the need for resources that intentionally engage the entire person, fostering continued transformation and Spiritual Generativity.
The project culminates in a four-day, in-person retreat designed to create a sacred space for reflection, growth, and connection. The retreat features time in Scripture, meaningful learning, and a LifeStory exercise, inviting participants to locate themselves within their personal and spiritual narratives while exploring pivotal life chapters and transitions. Combined with spiritual practices such as silence, prayer, and communal rituals, the retreat fosters a deeply holistic experience. Participants engage in self-discovery, communal sharing, and spiritual practices, all framed by a developmental understanding of later midlife challenges and opportunities.
By addressing the whole person and cultivating an environment of safety, reflection, and imaginative hope, this project equips seasoned leaders to embrace their unique journeys, sustain their impact, and continue flourishing personally and in Kingdom work.
