Abstract
Falls are a leading cause of hip fractures and accidental death
Backwards balance losses are particularly difficult to recover from and often result in injury
Lower body strength and rate of torque development (RTD) may influence stepping responses and balance recovery
This study examines how lower extremity peak torque and RTD affect recovery stepping following a backwards loss of balance
