Abstract

Throughout this book we have paid attention to the institutional settings within which we do our work as professors, and we have addressed the expectations that our administrators and colleagues have of us, which are, in fact, expectations that almost all faculty have of ourselves. In this chapter, we shift our focus to address some of the dispositions, concepts, habits, and support structures that typically characterize faculty who become productive researchers and writers. We know it is one thing to talk about different dimensions of scholarship in general and another thing altogether to talk about your scholarship. This chapter is about your work as an academic writer.
